UPCOMING EVENTS

COVID UPDATE
We had some great events planned for this summer 2020 but unfortunately we have had to cancel these in keeping with current guidelines.
Likewise the the installation of a drinking fountain and a telescope overlooking the river have been postponed.

Our hope is to reschedule the Children’s Theatre and the Family Square Dance and Picnic for next summer.

Swift Watch 2020
Following the fascinating talk to FOWP in February by Catherine Day of RSPB we are organising a "swift watch" over the park and neighbourhood. To read more about these amazing creatures click HERE. You can also take part in our swift survey using THIS FORM that can be returned by email HERE.

NEWS & REPORTS

Summer Flower Beds

Picture

Committed FOWP members have been hard at work on several of the flowerbeds in the park during this difficult time - very much appreciated by all park users.

Look out for the new flowerbed behind the Pavilion, a rock garden, as part of the new disabled access to the toilets.  It’s looking really lovely and we have been working hard to keep it thriving.

Litter collection

Picture

As always the summer brings the litter bugs to the park and FOWP continue to keep an eye on the situation and do a bit of tidying up. Mark McPartland, one of our regular park users, has walked the entire width and breadth of the park collecting bottle caps - see his collection of brands above. Well done Mark - setting a great example!!

Does anyone want to take on the challenge of what food packaging is most discarded in the Park?  Or perhaps the most interesting piece of rubbish?  Or which items are most frequently left on the field and not in the bin?!  C’mon, go for it!  We await some interesting replies.  Some of us have our own findings already!

Egyptian Geese at Home
We’re happy to report that we now have two pairs of Egyptian geese that visit the Park.  Be sure to take note if you hear very loud honking! They can be seen daily on the shore amongst the many Canadian geese or in the trees by the River.

Meadow in the Park
As you may have noticed, along the west side of the field, there is now extensive fencing demarcating an area that the council has identified for a meadow.  It is a process and and we ask for your patience and look forward to seeing greater biodiversity within the park.
